In line with the current precautionary measures, Intensive inspection campaigns has been conducting by Dubai Municipality team to ensure the safety of food products and carried their visits to various food institutions to ensure they apply food safety & sterilization requirements.
FROM TOLA TO GRAM
At the end of February this year exactly on 20th, UAE, presented by ESMA, has decided to change the unit of perfumes’ measurement in the markets officially from Tola to Grams / Milliliters.
This comes in accordance with the Cabinet's decision no. 31 issued in 2006 pertaining to the national measurement system.
ESMA has also arranged onsite awareness sessions in the market; explaining the unit difference and making sure the decision is properly followed.
ALMOST 40 NEW STANDARDS
The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has worked intensively and newly published 39 new standards since mid-Jan 2020 till date.
It is noteworthy, that thirty-two standards have been issued during only April, in alignment with COVID-19 situation.
ESMA has adopted 21 standards from ISO, 9 EN’s, 2 ASTM’s, with a single GSO and MRL while developing 5 purely UAE standards. Most of the developed standards (70%) twenty-seven are Medical related such as Biocompatibility evaluation of breathing gas pathways, Anesthetic and respiratory equipment, Facemasks and Gloves and 5 Chemical standards focusing on the disinfectant, 4 food, 2 electronics 1 agricultural.
A SAUDI-MADE HAND SANITIZER HAS BEEN SUSPENDED BY MANAA SYSTEM
SHIELD hand sanitizing gel, manufactured by Bonn Medical Industries a Saudi Arabian factory, was recently included in the data base of FEDRAL MANAA system because it contains a high percentage of ‘’methanol’’ that has proven laboratory danger for public health.
It is also noteworthy, that the said product was prior banned in the country of origin ‘’Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’’
‘’KNOW WHAT TO EAT’’ IS THE TITLE OF THE NEW INITIATIVE BY ESMA
In line with the current precautionary measures and the survival of consumers in homes, Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology ESMA has launched a new initiative targeting the consumers in UAE with an awareness campaign named as ''KNOW WHAT TO EAT'' to increase public awareness of the UAE food standards & its contribution in raising safety & security to the consumers.
The campaign is decided to last from beginning of May until mid-June on ESMA's social media official channels.
The mentioned campaign is set to address coloring materials in food products, trans fats, eggs, shelf-life periods for food products, honey, how to rightly read and understand the label of a food product & standards for sweeteners in foods and more.
